Thornbow is an action game made by Aris Digital Pty Ltd ("we", "us") in Australia. This policy explains what information the game uses, why, who it goes to, how long it's kept and the choices you have. If you have any questions, email us at support@aridigital.net.

The short version

  • We don't ask for your name, email address, phone number or photos, and the game has no accounts of its own.
  • Your progress and settings are saved on your device. If you sign in to Google Play Games, a copy of your progress is kept in your Google account too, and your Daily Trail scores and Watchtower floors go on its leaderboards.
  • The game offers optional video ads from Google AdMob. Google collects some information to show and count the ads, as explained below.
  • Unless you turn Usage data off in Settings, the game sends Google's Firebase how it's played and any crash reports, so we can fix and balance it. These never include your name, email address or advertising ID.
  • Purchases are made through Google Play. We never see your payment details. Nothing random is ever sold.
  • We never sell your information.
  • The game is made for players aged 13 and over.

What the game keeps on your device

The game saves these on your phone or tablet, so you can carry on where you left off:

  • your progress: gold, gems, whetstones, heroes and their stars, gear, talents, chapters and stars, Watchtower floors, Daily Trail scores, daily missions and the login calendar
  • your settings: sound, music, screen shake, vibration, the battery saver, reduce effects, reminders and usage data
  • the products you've bought, and the transaction numbers of your purchases, so each purchase is given to you exactly once

Deleting the game, or clearing its storage in your device's settings, deletes them. Settings > Account & data > Delete my data deletes your progress from your device and, while you're signed in, from your Google Play Games account.

Reminders

If you allow it, the game leaves at most one reminder a day on your phone: when the patrol is full, or when your Rested runs are ready. They're scheduled on your phone itself, and nothing is sent to us. Turn them off in Settings > Reminders, or in your phone's notification settings.

Google Play Games

If you sign in to Google Play Games (the game offers it when it starts, and in Settings > Account & data):

  • Cloud save: a copy of your progress is kept in your Google account, so you can carry on on another device. If your account has progress from another device that's further on, the game asks you which to keep.
  • Leaderboards: your Daily Trail scores and your highest Watchtower floor are shown on Google Play Games' leaderboards, with your Play Games name and picture, as your Play Games settings allow.

The game reads your Play Games name to show it in Settings, and sends nothing else about you. Google handles your Play Games account and its data under Google's privacy policy. Delete your saved game with Settings > Account & data > Delete my data while you're signed in, or in your Google Play Games settings.

Usage data and crash reports (Google Firebase)

To fix crashes and balance the game, it uses Google's Firebase:

  • Analytics records how the game is played: runs started and finished (the chapter, the result, how far you got, the sparks you picked, how long it took), the tutorial's steps, gear, talents and heroes improved, video offers and purchases made, and the gold, gems and whetstones earned and spent. With these, Firebase records your device's model, operating system and language, the game's version, an ID it creates for this installation of the game (not your advertising ID), and your approximate location (the country, from your IP address).
  • Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): if the game crashes or hits an error, what it was doing (for example the chapter), the device's model and operating system, and the error itself.
  • Remote config: the game asks Firebase for tuning values, for example how many videos a day it offers, so they can be changed without an update. This sends the same installation ID.

Usage data is on unless you turn it off in Settings > Usage data. With it off, the game sends no analytics or crash reports. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, analytics also wait for your answer on Google's consent form, and stay off unless you agree to the game storing information on your device. The game never sends your name, email address or advertising ID, never uses this information for advertising, and never sells it. Google processes it for us as described in Google's privacy policy and Firebase's privacy information.

Ads (Google AdMob)

The game offers short "rewarded" videos, for example to take a run's spoils or open a Supply Crate. Watching one is always your choice, and there are no other ads. The Ad-Free Pass gives the same rewards without the videos.

To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, Google's software in the game collects information such as:

  • information about your device, such as its model, operating system and language
  • your IP address, which can suggest your approximate location
  • your device's advertising ID, where that's allowed
  • how you interact with the ads, and diagnostic information when something goes wrong

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, you're asked for your consent with Google's consent form before any ad is loaded, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings > Privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your device's advertising ID in your Android settings.

Google uses this information as described in Google's privacy policy and on its page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Purchases (Google Play)

The game sells gem packs, a Starter Pack, the Ranger's Stipend, the Patron's Seal, hero packs and the Ad-Free Pass. Payments are handled entirely by Google Play, under Google's privacy policy. We don't receive your name, email address or payment details. The game only gets a confirmation that a purchase went through, with its transaction number.

The game's purchasing software (Unity IAP, from Unity Technologies) sends Unity technical information about how the store connection is working, such as diagnostics and performance data, so that purchases work. It never includes your payment details, and Unity uses it only for that, briefly, as described in Unity's privacy policy.

Who we share information with

We don't sell or rent anyone's information. What's described above goes only to the services that make the game work:

  • Google: AdMob (ads), Firebase (usage data and crash reports), Google Play (purchases) and Google Play Games (cloud save and leaderboards)
  • Unity Technologies: the purchasing software's diagnostics

These companies may process information in other countries, including the United States, under their own safeguards. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Keeping your information safe

Everything the game sends travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). We don't run servers of our own and keep no database of players. Usage data and crash reports are kept in our Firebase project, which only we can open, through a Google account protected by 2-Step Verification.

How long information is kept

  • On your device: until you delete it with Delete my data, delete the game or clear its storage.
  • Your saved game and leaderboard scores: in your Google Play Games account, until you delete them.
  • Usage data: at most 14 months. Crash reports: 90 days.
  • Emails you send us: only as long as we need them to help you.
  • Ad information: Google keeps it as its privacy policy describes.

Children

Thornbow is made for players aged 13 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and think your child has given us personal information (by emailing us, for example), contact us and we'll delete it.

Your choices and rights

  • Change your ad consent choices in Settings > Privacy choices (where they apply).
  • Turn usage data and crash reports off in Settings > Usage data.
  • Delete your progress, on your device and in your Google Play Games account, with Settings > Account & data > Delete my data.
  • Reset your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your Android settings.
  • Turn reminders off in Settings > Reminders, or in your phone's notification settings.

Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK, Australia or some US states), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, or to object to how it's used. Email us at support@aridigital.net and we'll reply within 30 days. We hold nothing on servers of our own, and as the game never sends us your name or email address, we may not be able to match its data to you. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner).

If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK: we use analytics and personalised ads only with your consent, given on Google's consent form. We rely on our legitimate interests to fix the game (crash reports), tune it (remote config) and protect it from fraud, and on our agreement with you to deliver your purchases and cloud save.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and in the game, and change the date at the top. If a change is important, we'll also say so in the game.
